Here is some background on the Judges/Candidates:
Chief Justice Cheri Beasley
Chief Justice Beasley is the first African American woman in the NC Supreme Court’s 200-year history to serve as Chief Justice. She has served on the Supreme Court since 2012 and was named Chief Justice in March 2019. As Chief Justice, she oversees the NC judicial system in its entirety.
She also served for four years as an Associate Judge on the NC Court of Appeals and as a District Court judge for a decade in the 12th judicial district. She began her judicial career in 1999 as a public defender in Cumberland County.
Justice Mark Davis
Justice Davis is a lifelong resident of North Carolina. He was born in Jacksonville, NC. Justice Davis received his undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He obtained his law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law and served on the North Carolina Law Review.
Justice Davis spent 13 years as a litigation attorney at the Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice law firm. He then served as a Special Deputy Attorney General in the NC Dept. of Justice and then served two years as general counsel to the Governor. He served 6 years as a judge on the NC Court of Appeals and has been an Associate Justice on the Supreme Court of NC since March, 2019. He is the first Jewish member in the history of the Supreme Court. In 2019, he authored a book on the NC Supreme Court, entitled “A Warren Court of Our Own.”
Judge Lucy Inman
Lucy Inman is a judge on the North Carolina Court of Appeals, and a candidate for the open seat on the North Carolina Supreme Court. Judge Inman was elected statewide to the Court of Appeals in 2014.
Judge Inman’s first career was as a newspaper reporter. While covering court proceedings, she was inspired to participate in the justice system. She earned her law degree from UNC School of Law.
