A Part of Stronger NC
The League of Women Voters of Dare County is sponsoring an educational event entitled Coastal Storm Water Management and Mitigation on Wednesday, February 1st at 7pm at the Pitts Center in Southern Shores. This program will be presented by Ann Daisey, Community Conservationist for the Dare Soil and Water Conservation District. She will discuss storm water in our area, the affects it has on our environment, and the methods we can use to reduce it. Her presentation will be followed by a Q & A.
Living in this naturally beautiful and fragile coastal area, it is important to recognize that what we do directly impacts the environment around us. Every time humans alter the natural landscape we change the hydrology, or the movement of water, in relation to land. It is important to be educated, to implement storm water management plans, or to mitigate for these issues. The Dare Soil and Water Conservation District and the N. C. Coastal Federation provide many resources to assist with reducing storm water runoff and for providing more natural options for mitigation.
